My name is Emma and I live in Wellington with my partner and daughter. I work for our family company, Tranzit Group, in training and development which I love!
Thanks so much for chatting with me, Emma! Tell us a little about your hobbies and interests.
I love to cook and am known to use every pot and pan in the kitchen, much to my partner's frustrations.
I love reading… from Brene Brown to Sally Rooney and anything in between.
Travel and just generally being out and about exploring. I like to be active, and I enjoy a variety of physical activities, especially swimming.
What sparks the most joy in your life?
Definitely my daughter. I love experiencing life through her eyes. She sees all the brilliance in the mundane, everyday things… like exploring the rock pools by our home, or simply inspecting the asparagus on her plate that she has no intention of eating.
What are your go-to healthy daily habits?
1. This one is new for me, but my number one is a cold shower first thing in the morning. I run the shower on full cold for a few seconds before diving straight in. It’s a game-changer, especially when you think that will be the toughest thing you have to do all day!
2. I use an Apple Watch purely to make sure I close all three rings each day [Stand, Exercise, Movement]. This just helps keep me accountable to incremental steps each day.
How long have you been a Pilates By Bel member?
My first class was in 2019 when visiting my friend in London. We rocked up to a class in the park at 6am during a heatwave and I don’t think anything in life has been as hard as that! I then did some classes online during lockdown and then picked it up consistently with a subscription in March this year.
How has Pilates By Bel impacted you?
For me it is my core strength. The exercises are very targeted and so after consistently doing the classes, you really start to notice improvements. Another bonus has been flexibility – it has complemented other types of exercise I do.
Fave PBB exercises & workouts?
All things core, especially with the Pilates ball. It's amazing how adding that ball really fires up the muscles! I do a variety of exercise, but nothing targets my core like a PBB class.
I love the Weekly Plans. It just means I don’t need to think for myself, I can just turn it on and go. I also love the Foundations classes, which are so good for everyone – I have been doing Pilates for a while but I always learn something new in those classes and the prompts help you to get the best out of your class.
Advice to anyone unsure about online Pilates?
It sounds contradictory but it gives you structure yet so much flexibility. Generally I just follow the PBB Weekly Plans, but sometimes I’m in a situation where I need to mix it up as I don’t have equipment/mat and all you need to do is scroll through a class category and you’re bound to find something that works!
