Hi, I'm Cath! I’m from Bucklands Beach, Auckland and I currently live in Clapton, Hackney with my partner and my 1 year old daughter. I am a litigation lawyer, with a particular focus on civil fraud – it can be quite exciting, in a geeky legal way.
So happy to be chatting with you, Cath! Could you firstly please share with us a little about your hobbies and interests?
As much as it is cliched, my two main hobbies have always been reading and running. I love consuming content about pop culture – podcasts, newsletters, interviews – a mix of high and low.
And what sparks the most joy in your life?
Sharing my favourite things with family and friends, both big and small. It could be a great day skiing, a drink in the sun (anywhere will do), or even just a well made flat white after a walk around the park.
Love that, often simple is best! What are your go-to healthy habits?
For me, morning movement is the key to getting my head in the right space for the day. Trying to get in incidental walking and movement where possible, and tea and chocolate after dinner (always).
How long have you been a Pilates By Bel member?
I’ve been doing PBB for 3 years now!
And what was your first impression of PBB?
I completely underestimated it – the burn is REAL.
Haha amazing, I love surprising people with how tough Pilates is! What impact has adding Pilates to your routine had?
I have always been a runner and was a bit of a yoga-purist. PBB opened up the world of Pilates to me. There were some particularly tricky moments during my fertility treatment when running wasn’t an option. Other running addicts will appreciate how difficult a thing it is to cut out, and PBB was there as something I could do to stay active and feel strong.
I kept doing classes throughout my pregnancy and postpartum – it has been an amazing companion through all of this. Being able to have 15-20 minutes to yourself and get in some movement in those early days of parenthood is game-changing.
Do you have any PBB exercises or classes?
Full Body Bands is my go-to for a complete workout. Perhaps controversially, I also love a lunge. Clams are my nemesis!
One last question for you – what is your advice to anyone unsure about at-home Pilates?
Give it a week (which is free!), and you will be hooked.
